Can I erase DirectCD's formatting on a CD-RW so I can use it elsewhere?

If I understand your question correctly, simply use the erase function that comes with the Adaptec software. Then you can rewrite the CD-RW in any format you want. I don't think DirectCD does anything special and certainly nothing permanent to the CD-RW.
