Yes Gail Davies wrote it and had a hit on it. But this particular solo was played by ? and the singer was ?. Most diffinately alot has recorded it; because it is a great song. Jim is right on the track with Johnny Bush; but I believe; Loessberg told me once who the steel player was on that recording, and I was quite suprised myself.

Ok Jon Light; it didn't hit me till later; but that's a great responce. I forgot the Jackson 5 recorded that Ole Motown hit called "I'll be there"ha
Well does everyone give up? Ok; it was Johnny Bush singing the song with the great Dickie Overby on steel. Jim you had it; but Mr. Bush used so many great steel players through his years, it's hard to keep up; I always have to ask my neighbor Mr. Loessberg the answers to those Bush/steel players versions. So someone will have to win the "New Car" the next go around

Gail Davies didn't write it, ferchrissakes. She was only 8 years old when it was cut. Rusty Gabbard wrote the song in the 1950's. He played rhythm and fronted for both Price and Tubb.

Oops; sorry Herb. I know that was a hugh mistake on my part. We did a few shows with Gail and I mis-interpreted what she said. I guess when she said it was her song; she ment the one that made her somewhat known when she had a release of it. I only have a couple of versions of that one and I need to keep reminding myself that I'm just a kid when it comes to knowing my history.
Thanks for the correction on that one.

OK, so if I'm hunting through the old vinal bins, who would I look for? What's my best bet? I LOVE this share a lick/turnaround portion of the SGF, but sometimes feel that I could benefit a lot more from it if there was a *.wav file to listen to. Tab doesn't include timing, and if the lick/turnaround isn't part of a particular song, it's kinda tough to get the feel of it. Anyway, I guess Gail Davies or Ray Price is what I'll look for. Thanks for the posts, everyone!!!

FWIW
Ray Price recorded 2 totally different songs called "I'll Be There"
1. "I'll Be There (If You Ever Want Me)" - Rusty Gabbard circa 1950's
2. "I'LL BE THERE (When You Get Lonely)" - Burgess. I have this one on an LP called Ray Price's Greatest Hits. There's no date on it but there's a note on the back cover of the sleeve that says "If you are the owner of a new stereophonic system, this record will play with even more brilliance..". !!

Hey Dean; That particular solo was played on a Johnny Bush tape I have. The tape also has "What a way to live" as the first song. Also; I think I'm gunna be working on a video with all the tab I posted on here. Mike Vasquez from Austin has proposed a deal for me to do that and I am thrilled to do it. So hopefully when I get home off this tour; we can begin that process; and when done, I will post where to obtain one of them and It will be very cheap(believe me)

No prob Kenny; and as soon as I can get off the road; I'm gunna sit down to my guitar and get back on the tab schedule. If all I can do is give back to the steel guitar world what It has given me; that is all I want to do. I didn't have the kind of resources that this forum has provided, and I think it is my duty to continue to take advantage of this wonderful resource to learn as much as I can, and to pass along what I've learned.

Man ya'll; thanks for all the nice words of encouragement. I know some of ya'll are logging all this stuff and well I have to admit that I didn't. I asked Mike if he could help me to print all those licks and turns; but haven't heard back yet. He might be waiting for me to get back to the US. But I will ask if anyone has all that stuff; just the tab itself; If they could fax it to me. My fax number is 512-671-8631. Or if it can be sent to my e-mail or something; that would be cool. Or my snail is:

I will be home from Sweden on Monday the 21st; and hopefully I can get on that video thing; It sounds like a blast and I would love to do it while I got a little time. Thanks to all; REALLY.
