Line 6 POD HD500X PSG Rig

Post by Alan Ford »

Hello all,

I am currently playing a Nashville LTD SD10 by Gary Rittenberry, through a Peavey Stereo Chorus 400, and a Line 6 POD HD500X effects pedal board.
I used to use a Peavey Profex II with the Jeff Newman patches, and a Valverb tube reverb, but my current setup is unbelievable.

I have my PSG plugged into a Goodrich pedal, then into the 1/4" guitar input on the POD. I am using the POD as a true stereo pre-amp, going from the 1/4" left and right amp outputs on the POD to the effects loop returns on the amp. This bypasses the amp's pre-amp and just uses it as a power amp with two discrete 130 watt RMS amplifiers.

The effects loop has a stereo TRS jack that is looking for the input signal on the tip and shield (opposite what most setups call for), so you need a 1/4" mono tip/shield plug on the POD side of the cable, and a TRS plug on the amp side wired to just tip and shield. You need one cable for each amp input to get the true stereo.

The POD models a vast assortment of vintage amps. I have patches modelling a blackface Fender twin reverb, and a Nashville 400. The POD has countless effects to apply. I also made patches to emulate a Hammond B3 through a Leslie, and one that is a dobro sound. With the exception of the patch with the Leslie, I do not configure a speaker cabinet on the POD because I don't want to diminish the sound quality of the Peavey amp with two 12" black widows.

If anyone is interested, I am willing to share my patches, and eager to try other people's patches too.
